A Call To Pray and Fish: Kathy’s Weekly Letter

Kathy’s Weekly Letter:

Did you catch the slight change in the subject line?  I love God’s sense of humor.  Sometimes, the way He lays things on my heart is so humorous that I can’t help but smile and laugh. And I know God is smiling and laughing right along with me. That gives me such joy! Our God is AN AMAZING GOD!  He is so involved in our lives to the smallest detail! So, yes, not only is God calling us to pray, but He is calling us to go fishing! So, let’s get a fresh revelation from last week’s NIV verse in Matthew 4:18-20,

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

I hear Him calling us.  In the RSV translation He says, “I will MAKE you fishers of men”.  I hear Him equipping us.  And because God knows I like to make lists, He graciously gave me a list of just exactly how He is going to be equipping me/us for fishing!

1. God reminded me that I must have bait. My bait is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives me courage to speak with boldness to those that don’t know Him.

Ephesians 6:19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

2. God says that I can’t go without my boat. So, I will need an Ark! The Ark of the New Covenant, JESUS! I cannot go fishing without Him!

Revelation 11: 19 Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.

3. It might be a long day, so God says to not forget the snacks. Now God, You know that is something I will not forget (His sense of humor, again!) but thank you for reminding me! I’ll need bread and wine and that will keep me fed for eternity!

John 6: 35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Numbers 15:5 With each lamb for the burnt offering or the sacrifice, prepare a quarter of a hin of wine as a drink offering.

4.I know Jesus is going to lead me to a body of water because the sea can represent people in His Word.

Habakkuk 1:14 You have made people like the fish in the sea, like the sea creatures that have no ruler.

5. With His leading, I’m going to reel them in with a rod of authority and net them with His Word.

Exodus 4:1-5 Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?” 2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. 3 The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground, and it became a snake, and he ran from it. 4 Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So, Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. 5 “This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”

Matthew 4:47-48 Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets but threw the bad away.

6. Now……what hook to use??? You know fishermen don’t like to give away ALL their secrets! You will have to wait for next week’s post for that bit of information!  Until then, there are plenty of fish in the sea so let God reveal to you the best fishing hole He wants to send you to!  Use prayer as your “research tool” to guide you to the secret place!

Thank you, Father, for allowing me to have a bit of fun today with this post.  But mostly, thank you for highlighting your Word in even those everyday things that we might take for granted.  Father, thank you for being in the details. I’m thankful that we can always come to you in our deepest sorrow and in our radiant joy! You are a God that blesses us in EVERY situation and I’m so thankful for that!! I Praise Your Holy Name! Amen
